Impressive mood

Without having seen the previous episodes this animation was a great experience. From the first scene I just leaned back in my chair and settled in, it was like watching a feature film.

The character animation was very powerful in its simplicity, and the pacing in your story telling was perfect. What really blows me away are your amazing backgrounds. You manage to create a world that feels vibrantly alive and utterly convincing - undoubtly the one thing that I will remember best from your animation.

It was also nice to see how you used the rain as extra impact in the story (and how you got away with using rain for so long without it becoming tedious). Also, your use of music gave an extra edge to the whole thing - I actually believe dialogue would have been a let down.

All in all I find this flash to be one of those gems that makes me return to Newgrounds. I am off to watch the other episodes.

Very proffesional

In my opinion there are way too many stick- and fight-animations on Newgrounds. I usually vote according to the effort put into the production, but too often these animations are uninspired at best.

This animation is one of the rare occasions where I can lean back in my chair by pure amazement. The short sequences have a fluid motion and conveys a feeling that undoubtly should rank as one of the absolute best on Newgrounds, and this is only a teaser! If the finished animation can meet half of the expectations it is nothing but a masterpiece in making.

Great work! I am looking forward to the full experience.

Wow!!! that was a sweet asss review man, thanks alot! :)

Bizarre and funny

As a swede I probably find this funnier than the average NG user, but I think the strange ideas that are blended together in this slick and professional looking animation might very well find its way to a little cult status.

When it comes to your graphics they are nicely done, very clean and with great attention to detail. In later scenes your graphics deteriorates a little, or at least it seems that way because of line thickness and clip re-use. The web-cam clips during the end credits were borderline narcissistic but a little funny.

Your sound and music are well chosen and fits great with the overall animation (are the dialogue snippets for Ashberg and Persbrandt real clips?), and the monologue during the beginning is hilarious - great use!

It is clear that you have great potential and I would very much like to see you do something more serious with the style you use in the beginning. Keep at it!

FrostRhino responds:

Wow, great review. Thanks for all the feedback. Thanks for enjoying it.
Well, this was probably one of my last flash projects. I just wanted to finish it. Might give up the whole thing now that its done.

Lacks build-up

This animation impressed me with its simplicity and basic execution, and proved that you do not meed fancy graphics in order to provide good entertainment. All music and sound effects were very crisp and well chosen.

The one thing I lacked was a little more background to the killing spree, apart from the obvious psychotic angle.

All in all an entertaining animation that could have been a bit longer. Nice work.

LinkanMedia responds:

Thanks very much! You'll be glad to hear that a longer penguin movie is in the making so stay tuned for that!

Impressive effort

What I liked the most was the mood you created, along with great pacing in your storytelling. Your murky surroundings and the great attention to detail gave this animation a very professional look.

When I watched it a second time I was a bit bothered by the scewed perspective in some of the scenes, although I realize that it might be intentional in order to enhance the feeling from the warped mind of the bad guy. A couple of scenes also had re-used backgrounds where original backgrounds in my opinion would have lifted the total experience.

I know I am picky, but the few things I point out would have made a great submission even better. Looking forward to your next episode.

GoreAddict responds:

The re-used backgrounds were to low a bit the file size. Thanks for the awsome review

Great effort

This flash showed off great talent in the detailed backgrounds in the beginning and the waepons were great. I am not a fan of sticks, but when it is as well as this animated I have no complaints. The 3D part was also very impressive, but I felt that the film deteriorated from there (perhaps rushed in order to get it finished!?). However, the finishing action sequence was great albeit a bit short.

I think that this film suffered a little from the blend of techniques used, and I know I would have liked it better if you used that obvious graphics talent to draw real characters instead of sticks. My personal preferences aside I found this to be a very enjoyable flash, and I will be looking forward to your next episode.

Thanks alot! I see all your points, although I only started to rush on the credits lol! Everything on this movie I took my time on but I can see your point, it did kinda look like it was detiriorating towards the end. I hope to make the sequal much better! Oh, and I never realised my graphics were that good :o thanks!

Know your audience

Even though your primary goal is to display your work, you would be increasing your chances for fair evaluation if you made it possible for your viewers to understand the content of your animation.

As for the animation itself i found it simple but effective. Your art however could use some work. It is easy to add a little shading to the colors, and some extra ambence overall (creases in clothing, leaves on the ground etc.).

The voice acting was a little naive and could use more feeling in the delivery.

Overall i found your work promising and a fair 'first' submission. I am convinced that your next animation will be improved on several levels.

(Plus att jag tyckte det var kul att se så många svenska reaktioner på din animering).

I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
